Kindly checking back here.. promise I didn’t forget

I probably type these four words every single day.

“Kindly checking back here…”

It’s one of those phrases that becomes second nature when you work as an assistant. You type it without thinking. But the more I say it, the more I realize it’s not really about emails it’s really just about life. This might sound super naive, but just bear with me.

How many opportunities disappear simply because neither person reached back out?

How many friendships slowly fade because both people assumed the other was too busy?

How many networking calls never happen because someone was waiting for the “perfect time” to send the message?

We spend so much time worrying that we’ll bother people that we forget everyone is just trying to keep their head above water.

Life gets busy.

Emails pile up.

Texts get buried.

A reminder on your calendar gets swiped away and forgotten.

It happens to every single one of us. So when I send a follow-up, I’m not assuming someone ignored me I’m assuming they’re human.

To me, “kindly checking back here” has become less of an email opener and more of a mindset.

It’s choosing to reach out instead of assuming.

It’s sending the second text.

It’s following up after that coffee chat.

It’s checking in on the friend you haven’t talked to in months.

It’s asking the question one more time.

Not because you’re desperate or trying to force an answer. But because sometimes people need another chance to remember.

I’ve realized that some of the best things in my life have happened because someone followed up.

Or because I did. One extra email. One extra phone call.

One extra “Hey, just wanted to see how you’ve been.” And isn’t that true for almost everything?

The job you wanted. The person you wanted to meet. The friendship you didn’t want to lose. The idea you couldn’t stop thinking about.

What if the difference wasn’t talent or timing, what if it was simply being willing to check back in?

So maybe “kindly checking back here…” isn’t just an email. Maybe it’s a reminder that the people and opportunities worth having are often worth reaching out to one more time because life gets busy. People forget not because they don’t care just because they’re human.

And maybe the simplest act of kindness is believing that before assuming anything else.

And yeah it’s been a mintute since I have written but hey im just kindly checking back here 🤘🏼
